Today Lovely Books Shines The Author Spotlight On…

Mariana Thorn

If you look in the local Starbuck’s or Barnes and Noble you might just find Mariana Thorn. She can usually be found with headphones in and deep into the worlds she has created. There is this thing about her pens if you touch them you might receive a smack to the hand and the well-known glare of destruction.

As a child all her stories involved horses, horses and more horses. There might have been a slight obsession. Writing became more serious in her early twenties but she never dreamed of publishing until much later. Mariana participates yearly in the international event called NANOWRIMO. She has even been known as a Municipal Liaison for that crazy event. There is nothing like the feeling of encouraging other writers, she would say.

Outside of writing one of her favorite places to sit and read are the sunny beaches of Florida. At home in Washington State her favorite activity is riding horses up on the mountain trails. She has an awesome group of family and friends that keep her in coffee and encouragement. Then there is her best buddy Tony, her little dog. She suspects he will try and take over the world someday.

Author Interview

Which of your books is your favorite? Which character is your favorite?

My absolutely favorite series I’ve written has yet to come out. It’s a fantasy and I’ve been working on it for about 15 years. My favorite character is from there her name is Layna. She is a warrior and a princess. I don’t think any characters I create will ever compare to the ones I have in those books.

How do you go about writing a book? Do you have any schedule, tricks or tips to share?

Well mostly I pull my hair out, talk to my author friends, bounce ideas off them and sit in my chair and write lmao. I have a group of friends that are great when I hit a wall. As for advice I have a plethora of that. The most important thing to do is to just write don’t sit around and talk about doing it just do it. My favorite saying is: You don’t get published by accident, the only way it happens is if you make it happen.

What are you currently working on?

Right now I have book 2 of my Fur, Fangs, and Fairies series Seizing Shadows on my desk. It’s an emotional roller coaster. On Oct. 11th I have the release of my short story that is a spin of the first book of that series PIB Files.

Did you design your own cover? Was it difficult?

Yes, I designed my own covers and I love doing it. I even take my own photos.

How do you feel about being self-published?

I love that I can make my own decisions on things like covers. The community and support that I have found is amazing. I don’t think I would have this feeling of family if I had traditionally published. I have made so many amazing friends.
