"Miguel's Bar Mitzvah" is a collection of fifteen fictional short stories about love in Alternative Families. The title story is about a middle aged gay man who is studying for his Bar Mitzvah so that he can recite the prayer for the dead for his adopted parents, only to discover that he has unfinished business with the birth parents who discarded him when he was an adolescent. The stories depict different types of families, including gay, straight, bisexual, couples, throuples, tribes. The genres include everything from comedy, fantasy, and courtly love.
