Author Interview

How long have you been writing? When did you decide to become an author?

I’ve been writing for far longer than I can remember. It started during my college days, writing poems just to keep my spirits up. Gradually poetry just wasn’t enough for me, and I branched out into writing short stories. It wasn’t until some years ago that I got bitten by the yearning spirit to stop being an amatuer and move into the professional ring of becoming a full-fledged writer.

How do you find inspiration?

I watch a lot of movies, listen to variety of music and have read as much books as I can. Sometimes I see images of ideas pushing at the back of my mind for me to write about. It’s hard sometimes knowing what the pictures are about, because often to come to me in the shape of puzzles. Most times I have to relax myself and wait for the puzzle to reveal itself to me, then I can begin putting words to paper. But sometimes inspiration can be spontaneous. I simply surrender myself to whatever I’m feeling and allow the words to flow out of me. Afterwards, I usally don’t remember whatever it was that propelled me to write, neither does it really matter. What matters is that in the end, the words exist on paper.

How do you go about writing a book? Do you have any schedule, tricks or tips to share?

The first thing I try to tackle is finding out what the story is trying to tell me, and also from which angle would be best to tell the story from. Such is a hurdle I often must go through: deciding which individual character or point of view I should use to tell the story, and how well to correlate the words together to form a perfect image of what I have in mind. I write one word at a time, and try not to rush myself into the details.

What kind of books do you read? Who is your favorite author?

On of a favorite author used to be Stephen King, and I do still enjoy his books, however I’ve graduated further to include other writes such as James Bladwin, Dennis Lehane, and plenty others. I enjoy reading thrillers, literary works, dramas, and historical novels.

What are you currently working on?

Currently I’m working on a Crime Thriller that’s basically an off-shoot off my recently published book.
