K.R. Thompson was raised in the Appalachian Mountains. She resides in southeastern Virginia with her husband, son, three cats, and an undeterminable amount of chickens.
An avid reader and firm believer in the magic of books, she spends her nights either reading an adventure or writing one.
She still watches for evidence of Bigfoot in the mud of Wolf Creek.
Author Interview
How long have you been writing? When did you decide to become an author?
I’ve been writing for about five years now. I’ve always been drawn to books, even as a child. I’ve always loved the magic and adventure that books can take you on. One day, I decided to write my own adventure–now here we are!
How do you find inspiration?
My first series, the Keeper Saga, was a mixture of nature and magic. Inspiration for those novels came from the forest. (National forest borders my home, so inspiration is everywhere I look. )
How do you go about writing a book? Do you have any schedule, tricks or tips to share?
For me, writing happens at night when my little boy goes to bed, though ideas pop in my head all throughout the day. The only tips that I can give is write. Whenever you get an extra hour in the day sit down and write. The only person who can tell your story is you. It’s up to you to make it happen.
What kind of books do you read? Who is your favorite author?
I read the gamut of genres. YA, paranormal, fantasy, horror, romance… My favorite author of all time is Diana Gabaldon.
What are you currently working on?
I am currently working on book 2 (Nerida) of my Neverland series, as well as book 3 of the Keeper Saga, Wynter’s War, which should be out late this spring.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
The ability to never have to sleep. Just think of all the books I could write if I didn’t have to go to bed! 🙂
Do you listen to music when you write? If so, what kind of music?
I prefer silence.
Who is your favorite villain?
Well, being as I just finished my latest book that tells the story of how Captain Hook came to Neverland, I’d have to go with Neverland’s notorious villain.
If you had to pick between receiving a million dollars today, or $1000 a month for the rest of your life, which would you choose?
$1000 for life
If you could take anyone out for coffee, dead, alive, or fictional, who would it be?
Hmm, only one person? Eesh, this is hard! Okay, it would be fictional. I’d choose James Alexander Malcolm Mackenzie Fraser, the hero from Diana Gabaldon’s books. (You know, Jamie…from Outlander. 😉 )
