Today Lovely Books Shines The Author Spotlight On…

Meradeth Houston

I’ve never been a big fan of talking about myself, but if you really want to know, here are some random tidbits about me:
>I’m a California girl. This generally means I talk too fast and use “like” a lot.
>I have my doctorate in molecular anthropology. Translation: I sequence dead people’s DNA and spend a whole lot of time in a lab, which I love.
>I’ve been writing since I was 11 years old. It’s my hobby, my passion, and I’m so happy to get to share my work!
>My other passion is teaching. There’s nothing more fun than getting a classroom of college kids fired up about anthropology!
>If I could have a super-power, it would totally be flying. Which is a little strange, because I’m terrified of heights.

Author Interview

How long have you been writing? When did you decide to become an author?

I’ve been writing since I was 11, but it wasn’t until about ten years ago that I decided I actually wanted to become published.

How do you find inspiration?

All over the place, but especially in music. A good song will spark characters and plots like nothing else 🙂

How do you go about writing a book? Do you have any schedule, tricks or tips to share?

I’m a total panster (or as I prefer, puzzler) and tend to just sit down and write out what comes to me, then edit and revise for ages. My best trick would be: if you’re bored writing it, your readers will be bored too–keep it interesting 🙂

What kind of books do you read? Who is your favorite author?

I read all across the board, but love paranormals and YA and NA. I have far too many favorite authors to list!

What are you currently working on?

I’m currently working on revisions for the Sary Society book #3, writing book #4, and shopping a sci-fi NA. In other words, busy 🙂
Is there a specific Wednesday you wish your feature to be posted on Lovely Books?: I’m fine with any!
